Can Osama bin Laden Fly an Airliner Into a Nuclear Power Plant?

Many folks these days are worried about Nuclear Power Plants being attacked by International Terrorists. But they are protected with barricades from truck bombs and such. Some believe that OBL and his Talley Band will try to hijack an airliner and fly it into a Nuclear Power Plant? Fat chance? You have been reading too many Tom Clancy books indeed.

You see Osama bin Laden, cannot fly an airliner and even if he could those nuclear power plants are much stronger than you think. What I found interesting is that the Reactor Domes themselves were not as big an issue as many had thought due to their significant amount of concrete. What was perhaps more critical was on-site radioactive material stored in storage sheds on some of the properties. Still most of this was taken care of as well after the GAO, OMD and FERC identified lax policy controls, which may not have been proper BMPs.

Personally I am pro-Nuclear Power to some degree. What I fear worse would be a country like France, which is vulnerable and cannot take care of its own civilian populations. With rioters and looters and torching of cars and buildings. We should not worry about International Terrorists trying to take out a Nuclear Power Plant. The plant would shut down and the systems would put out the fires and first responders are ready even if a large airliner like a 727 or 737 tried. In our country we are safe. We should probably be more concerned with our allies and their nuclear power plants than here at home. Think on this in 2006.
