The President of the United States of America has stated that our nation is addicted to Foreign Oil and that we need to break the habit if we are to continue to use the amounts of energy that we do. Few can deny this truth and the answer is technology in alternative energies and alternative fuels. But how can the United States turn this great big ship around and be able to become more self-efficient?
In 2005 we only sold a few hundred thousand hybrid automobiles out of about 17 million total cars. That is a start, okay, I’ll give you that, but it is not a good start and you are not going to break any speed records to breaking your addiction that way. We must accelerate production to neck break speeds, like we did in WWII when we out produced the Germans and won WWII.
Of course our problems are not only with gasoline for our cars. What about our aircraft, trains, ships and trucks too. Consider how much diesel fuel and kerosene they need? Something must be done here too. Likewise consider our costs to produce energy in our nation. They keep going up and natural gas prices due to fluctuations in supply will continue to see price spikes as commodity traders watch the supply and demand issues each year.
If we are to win the energy war and break our addiction to foreign Middle Eastern Oil it is going to take more than lip service, as we must accelerate alternative energy uses and increase research and development and move this stuff to market as fast as possible as if we were at war. Consider this in 2006.
