Imagine how much more you could get out of life if you had twice or even ten times the energy you have right now? No matter who we are or what we want from life - the following is clear: if we had more energy we would be able to achieve a heck of a lot more and get more pleasure out of each and every day.
Think about it - whether you are a housewife/househusband, CEO, social worker, police officer, soccer player, artist, musician, office junior, waiter/waitress - having more energy would improve your life!
Similarly, no matter what your goals are - to spend more time with the kids, to do more exercise, to take up a hobby or two, to travel, to earn more money, to learn to sing, to work out more often, to take up painting, to go fishing, to develop property, to start trading, to start your own business - having more energy will give you a lot better chance of reaching these goals.
Imagine being able to go to bed an hour later and get up an hour earlier - what would those two extra hours a day mean to you? What could you achieve in those two hours?
Imagine having the energy and mental clarity to give you the juice to be more active and creative in your spare/relaxing time? What would you do with that time if it wasnt spent being shattered and recovering?!
Even if these examples have not directly struck a chord with you I am quite sure that you have been able to think of at least three or four ways in which having more energy would improve your life.
The Twin Forces of Unstoppable Energy
Diet
You get out what you put in. True to many things in life and none more so than here. If you load your body full of dead, refined, processed foods then it should follow that you are unlikely to have a great deal of energy.
It is also very clear that the old-school thinking on sugar and carbs is now also totally irrelevant for those looking for sustained, long-term energy. Sugar and carbs are not your friend. While they may give you an instant and very short-term energy boost, they will wreak havoc with your blood sugar levels and lead to huge dips in your energy level almost as instantly as it came.
Energy comes from giving your body fresh, nutrient-packed, living foods such as fresh vegetables, salads, seeds, nuts and oils.
Key Points to Follow:
- steer clear of the foods and drinks you KNOW are bad for you such as meats, dairy, sweets, sugars, saturated and trans fats, cola, coffee, refined foods, junk foods etc
- instead stick to fresh, healthy, life-giving foods such as leafy green vegetables, salads, low-sugar fruits, nuts, seeds, fish etc
- water is essential! you should aim to drink at least three litres of fresh, pure water every day without fail!
- supplementation can be a great help: green powders (made up of powdered grasses and vegetables) are great energy boosters and it is very important that we ensure all essential vitamins and minerals are consumed daily. Essential Fatty Acid (omega 3 in particular) supplementation is also vital for energy.
Fitness
The area that is often met with the most resitance - but is vitally important! Fitness relates to anything that gets you up and moving.
Improving your fitness level will do wonders for your overall energy. It will increase your aerobic capacity, help strengthen your lymphatic system, build stronger muscles and bones, improve the quality of your sleep, give greater mental clarity and increase your bodies capability to maintain energy levels throughout the day.
A mixture of aerobic and anaerobic exercise is ideal, but starting off with aerobic exercise is often a wise way to begin.
Key Points to Follow:
- make sure you enjoy whatever form of exercise you undertake. If you hate running, try swimming! If you do not enjoy it there is little to no possibility of you sticking to your exercise plan!
- plan, plan and plan some more! If you do not have a plan and a goal for exercise then it will become easy to put off, or find excuses not to do.
- whenever you are weighing up whether or not to go for that run/swim/walk/workout always think: how will I feel after I have done it, have I ever regretted working out instead of sitting still?
Setting and Achieving Goals
Changing your diet and lifestyle is not easy and it is certainly not quick. To ensure that you give yourself the greatest possibility of success the following points are of utmost importance:
- Set Goals: give yourself clear and measurable goals and milestones. If you have nothing to aim for then how will you know when you get there?
- Get Clear: why are you doing this? What will it give you if you do? What will you gain? What will you miss out on if you do not do this?
If you can make a list of at least ten things you will gain if you achieve your health and fitness goals and at least ten things you will lose if you do not then you are far more likely to succeed.
- Get a Plan: make a plan. Without it you will have no routine, no direction and plenty more excuses not to follow through!
